Last Friday afternoon I made my way over to Books-a-Million at Park City to photograph well designed book covers. The following are just a few of the many that caught my eye...
The work of fine artist Nick Gaento struck me differently than many of the covers around the store. It utilizes striking Futurism, yet conveys the Classical Greek-esque sculpture well. The title is also creatively integrated into the cover as it lies heavy above Atlas' shoulders.
I am doubting the cover is an original piece of Russian Constructivism, but the designer did a beautiful job, for one with that not-quite-there font, but especially with the illustration. I think it may be the reds that really sells this cover for me.
Definitely one of the more contemporary-looking covers I chose. The design is very simple: flat black with the cut-out of a leopard, overlaid with a simple, little-embellished font. It's that subtle detailing of wrinkles and blood on the paper leopard that takes this cover to the next level.
