Brainstorming with Typography and Symbolism

Today the class was given the option to continue working with visual metaphors or begin some typography, so I decided to dabble in the latter.  I started out still incorporating the visual metaphor combination of a cardboard sign cityscape but soon moved on to using some psuedo-turn-of-the-century type and cover formats.

I am really beginning to like the green cover at the right.  It's modeled similarly after pseudo-vintage 1900s books and is still able to incorporate some imagery from the book with the Brooklyn Bridge border.
I did make a note on the cover sketch that "The Cop" would need to be moved down further to better connect the title and be more visually appealing.  Also, I noted that the other covers utilized a lot of decorative line, so I'll need to incorporate more of that to fill the space and create an sense of unity.  Additionally, I hope in future sketches to make the green richer and choose a fitting color for the type.

Book Cover Brainstorming

This past weekend I delved more into Action Verb Brainstorming for the O. Henry short story "The Cop and the Anthem."  The first results...

I then took some images I really liked & worked to integrate them with color, title, the spacial confines of a cover.

Obviously, this is still a work in progress, but I like the way the cover has been developing.
